Richard James Gallagher's Obituary
Richard James Gallagher, 68, of Leesburg, Virginia passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025. Born on June 22, 1956, in Auburn, New York, Richard was the beloved son of the late James M. Gallagher and the late Mary Cunningham Gallagher.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary Lu Belote, and his cherished children: Daniel Gallagher and his wife Lauren Gallagher of Tamaqua, PA; Dr. Christine Gallagher Schneider and her husband Dr. Jared Schneider of Danville, PA; and Laura Gallagher Goldman and her husband Justin Goldman of Bethlehem, PA.
He also leaves behind his dear sister Susan Gallagher Scott, wife of Keith Scott of Vancouver, WA, and his treasured grandchildren, Evelyn Marie Gallagher, Madelyn Elle Gallagher, and Graham Goldman. Additionally, he is survived by his stepchildren Aimee Belote Martin and Robert K. Belote and his wife Carrie; his step grandchildren Johnathan Belote and Benjamin Belote as well as his close friend Frank Bredimus.
Rich spent his high school years in Pleasantville, NY where he formed lifelong friendships. He deeply valued those connections and enjoyed rekindling them at his Pleasantville High School reunion in 2024.
Known to his friends as the “grill master”, Rich took great pride in cooking for family and friends, often braving snowstorms just to fire up his grill or smoker. He loved sharing his knowledge of grilling, ensuring others could enjoy the art as much as he did.
A dedicated volunteer, Rich devoted many years to Marine Parents, supporting families and service members, starting when his son, Dan, was deployed as a Marine and continuing after his return.
Rich’s warmth, humor, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His family and friends will gather for a celebration of life, with details to be shared on Facebook at a later date.
