Sarah Lauree Smith's Obituary
Sarah Lauree Bush Smith ended her battle with Alzheimer’s on April 25, 2026, in Leesburg, VA.
Sarah was 85 years old, born in Nashville, Tennessee, to Stewart Bush and Josephine Newby Bush. Her parents and sister Myra Jean Weeks, and twin brothers Billy and Bobby Bush predeceased her, along with two nephews Carl and James Weeks.
She is survived by her devoted husband Charles M. Smith III, son Charles M. Smith IV, and daughter Lauree and her husband Chris Nolan, granddaughter Allison Greene, great-grandson Roman Akins, niece Carolyn Bradford, her husband David, their children Mathew and Melissa, her nephew Steve Weeks, great nephew Trey Weeks, great nieces Erin Weeks, Jessica Anthony and Kayla Browning and their families.
Sarah was a life-long educator, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in education from Peabody College in Nashville, and master’s degrees in both Spanish and Education from the University of Virginia.
She first taught at Lucketts School in 1963, and at Loudoun Valley High School from 1965 to 1990. She also worked at the Douglass Alternative School from 1991 – 1994 & tutored Spanish from 2008 -2012. Sarah served on the Loudoun County School Board from 2004 through 2008. She also taught Spanish at Foxcroft School in Middleburg and Leesburg Christian School.
She hosted many foreign exchange students and fostered learning opportunities for local immigrants wanting to learn the English language, by tutoring at her home.
A celebration of life will be planned for a future date at Loudoun Funeral Chapel.
Sarah will be laid to rest in Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens in Nashville, TN.
In lieu of flowers, Sarah’s charity of choice was the Humane Education Society, founded by Anna C. Briggs; for those who wish to donate in her memory.
