Born Monday, April 30, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late Charles Gilbert and the late Maudie Pearson Gilbert.
Terry is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Carol Belter Gilbert; son, Ryan Gilbert (Jessica), daughters, Erin Ford (Zachary) and Kathryn Smore (Greg); grandchildren, Michael, James, Owen, Jake, Caroline, Raea, Thomas, and Cameron; brothers, Charles Gilbert (Colleen) and Patrick Gilbert (Carol), sisters, Maribeth Kamen (Larry) and Eileen Lesniak (Michael); mother-in-law, Delores Belter; and numerous nieces and nephews. Affectionately known as “TG,” his passion for his family and friends was second-to-none. Affable, gregarious, and optimistic, he had the ability to create a space where all were welcome, “the more the merrier” was the phrase he shared the most. Besides his family, golf held a special place in TG’s heart, and he was always ready to regale you with the details of his latest round over a pint at the “19th” hole. Relentless, passionate, giving, and kind are only a few of the attributes that describe his characteristics. Underpinned by a strong sense of humor, his ability to lift the spirits of a room were undeniable. Creating a space where his grandchildren could laugh, joke, play, and learn was a priority and he succeeded in building memories his family will never forget.
A Funeral service will be at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, August 4, 2023 at Our Savior's Way Lutheran Church located at 43115 Waxpool Rd. Ashburn, Virginia 20148. Following Terry’s funeral, his life will be celebrated at 4:30 PM at River Creek Country Club at 43800 Olympic Blvd., Leesburg, Virginia 20176.
