Thelma Mae Johnson's Obituary
Thelma Mae Johnson, aged 89, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2024, in Leesburg, VA. Born on October 19, 1934, Thelma was a lifelong resident who graduated from Lincoln High School and was deeply rooted in her community. She married Clarence in 1955 and has been a faithful companion for 69 years. Her working career spanned many years which included The Round Hill Bank and Prison Fellowship Ministries.
Thelma was a loving mother, dedicated wife, and a hard worker known for her persistence and fairness. She cherished her time working in the yard and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family, creating lasting memories. Many of those great memories were developed on the back of a Harley Davidson motorcycle as she toured the country with her husband, “Tony.”, as he was called by his best friends. She was a fan of, and advocate for her four grandchildren, and eventually her thirteen great grandchildren.
She worshiped at the Assembly of God, where she formed many lifelong friendships and contributed to various church activities.
Thelma is survived by her husband, Clarence C. Johnson; her sister, Marguerite K. Santmyer;(James Santmyer); her children, Deborah M. Lawson, (Patrick Lawson), Michael C. Johnson, and Vicki M. Johnson; and her grandchildren, Katherine S. Whitaker,(Brian Whitaker), Amanda L. Staubs, Christian (Tyler) Johnson,(Kacey Johnson) and Chrystal J. Woody,(Danny Woody).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond A. and Ruth A. Jewell, her brothers Donald A. and Raymond B. Jewell, and her sisters Macy V. Santmyer and Helen A. Frye.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 am on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel. A service to celebrate Thelma’s life will follow at 11 am at the funeral home.
Interment will be held in Lakeview Cemetery, Hamilton, VA.
