Thomas Lewis Sims' Obituary
Thomas Lewis Sims, 53 of Ashburn, VA passed away peacefully on Monday, November 21, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer. Tom was born on Monday, May 19, 1958 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the son of Margaret Brown Sims of Wheeling, WV and the late James Russell Sims.
He is joined again in heaven in a loving embrace with his beloved wife Mary Kathryn “Kitty” Sims who lost her battle with cancer in March of this year.
In addition to his mother, Tom leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Kathryn Camelia "Kate" Sims of Ashburn, VA and Allison Margaret "Allie" Sims; his brother, David & Lisa Sims of Wheeling, WV, sister, Martha & Rodd Welker of Wooster, OH; lifelong friend Jim Jochum; special friends John and Sandy Clohan and daughters, who will be guardians of Kate and Allie; plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
He was a graduate of Muskingum College and was the General Manager of Tysons Corner Westpark Hotel for 24 years. Tom loved coaching softball and was the long time coach the Shamrocks softball team. He was also a loyal supporter of the Powerhouse volleyball team. He was a member of Ashburn Presbyterian Church.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will also be held privately. The Sims Family expresses heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at Loudoun Inova Hospital and to the staff and care providers at Evercare Hospice for the compassionate and exemplary care they provided to Tom over the past ten months.
The Sims Family welcomes expressions of sympathy and concern during this time of transition.
