What a kind person my Yeah-Ming was. As a respite caregiver, she dedicated her time to taking care of others—which is not surprising, as I knew she was someone who was never selfish and always cared for others. Not only that, she was a very courageous person to flee Cambodia during the war, protecting my cousin along the way so that I can continue to have a great relationship with him! Thank you, Yeah-Ming. May you be at peace.

The way Trin greeted me with her warm smile whenever I stopped by to see her son. She always made me feel welcome and like part of the family.
I’ll always remember the way Trin smiled when I would stop by to see her son. Her sweet smile was welcoming and made me feel like family.
My most memorable visit with Trin was when Linda and my youngest two daughters traveled to her home one evening. She had been traumatized by a break-in at her home a day earlier and asked for some company. The girls were young, and I worried that they might get restless. But Trin carefully walked us through the riveting story of her escape from Cambodia, carrying her son and worrying every second that they might be discovered by the ruthless Khmer Rouge. We were transfixed by the tale. The visit left me in awe of the courage of this small woman. This was one of many visits I had with Trin, but it is the one that is most firmly planted in my memory. I, and our nation as a whole, have been richly blessed by our East Asian immigrants.
