Virginia Treviranus' Obituary
Virginia Mickle Treviranus, 82 of Leesburg, Virginia passed away on Sunday, March 13, at home in the care of loved ones.
She was born on Sunday, April 1, 1928 in New York, New York. Virginia was one of three daughters of the late John Kenneth Mickle and the late Una Whitehurst Mickle. Mrs. Treviranus moved to Leesburg 40 years ago from Hamilton, Virginia where she and her late husband Stewart Treviranus were involved with horses: three day eventing, fox hunting and dressage.
When she moved to Leesburg she became involved in community activities while pursuing her interest in art and painting. She took courses at the Corcoran Gallery of Art as well as outdoor classes with Maggie Signer. She worked with groups to promote the recognition of art in Loudon County and the state of Virginia and served for many years as secretary to the Advisory Board of the Rust Library and worked on the book sale.
She was predeceased by her son Angus Treviranus in 1983.
Surviving are her sisters, Lorna C. Post and brother-in-law Richard of Clarksburg, MD and Joan M. Ogden and brother-in-law Bob of Guilford, CT. She is also survived by six nieces and nephews, nine great nieces and nephews, and her beloved dogs CC and Thunder.
She is survived by her three step-daughters: Denya Treviranus Clarke, King City, Ontario; Leslie Dee Treviranus Shepherd, Miccosukee, Florida; and Caroline Prout Treviranus Leake, Berryville, Virginia.
A memorial service is planned in April at Art Square.
Inurnment will be in Union Cemetery, Leesburg, VA.
