Walter Ripley Devine's Obituary
Walter Ripley Devine, 51, died in a tragic accident on October 25.
He is survived by his son John, daughter Lotus, and wife Claire of Memphis, Tennessee, as well as his siblings, Anne Devine and Donald Devine Jr. (Nancy) of Leesburg, Oliver Devine of Washington, DC, and Mary Devine Whitehorne (Les) of Virginia Beach and his 10 nieces and nephews.
Born October 10, 1963 in Leesburg, he was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Patricia Devine and his wonderful friend and mentor Joan Williams.
He graduated from Washington and Lee University in 1986. He attended the L’Institut des Etudes Politiques in Paris and received his master’s degree in Education from George Mason University. He graduated from The Phillips Andover Academy in 1982. He was a ninth grade reading specialist and Honors English teacher at Briar Woods High School in Ashburn. He was also a teacher-consultant with the National Writers Project.
His sweet soul and generous loving heart will be missed by so many.
A funeral service was held on Sunday November 2, at 2:30 pm, at the Goose Creeks Friends Meeting, 18204 Lincoln Road, Lincoln, VA 20132. A reception followed at the Meeting House.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Walter’s name to the Goose Creek Friends Summer Camp Program c/o the above address.
