“Wendy” Herst Held, 70 of Sterling, VA died on Sunday, September 19, 2010, at INOVA Loudoun Hospital Center in Lansdowne, VA. She was born Friday, June 21, 1940 in Manhattan, NY. She was the daughter of the late Herman Herst, Jr. Read Obituary
Wendy was always an inspiration to me and to so many others. As I travelled to Brazil for my own surgery, coming from Canada was scary for me, and Wendy soothed those fears. Meeting her finally at one of Dr M's functions meant very much to me and my husband. Wendy will always live on in the hearts of many. Wendy, I was always the caboose, so you knew that I'd probably be the last to stop by. Today was gorgeous here in the mountains of NC while we celebrated Connor's 2nd birthday! I wish you could have been here, but maybe you were?

For those of you who don't know me, I met Wendy on the Compuserve soap forum back in 2000. We had many discussions online & by phone that went way beyond television. She actually helped me stay sane when my daughter became a teenager & offered much sage advice.

Your mom was so proud of both of you & I know she's watching over all of you now. She spoke of y'all & the grandkids often & I bet she's got the best seat in the house for all their sporting events! Sorry we couldn't make the service today & wishing you all the best.

I met Wendy in April 2005 when I went to Brazil for my DS surgery under Dr. Marchesini. She was a bright and supportive light in my life at that time. My husband and I visited with her several times during our 17 day stay and found her to be both inspirational and nurturing to us during a time when we were far from home and needed a friend.
In all the years since, she has been a friend to many DSers and has been a fount of knowledge and encouragement to all of us - pre-ops; post-ops and others.
She will be sorely missed. Wendy, I hope you are where you always wanted to be and that your family and friends will be as richly blessed as I know we were to know you.

I originally met Wendy online through the Compuserve theatre group. We soon met face-to-face at one of the groups NYC theatre outings and found we had many other interests in common, including soap operas and VQT. Her warmth and intelligence transcended the limitations of Internet communication. It is hard to believe she is gone. Wendy and her family became close with my family when we were stationed together in Iceland. I was a baby then and don't remember a time when the Held's weren't part of our lives. Lots of great memories of California visits and Syracuse University football games and wedding celebrations as the kids grew up. Knowing Wendy for about 22 yrs , and get to see her every couple of weeks , it was something we were both looking for , to tell each other what was going on in our lives, the current and accomplishment of our children / grandchildren 's lives , watched movies together , especially the classic movies , Wendy knew all of her favorite lines coming up , made me want to watch it again later .
I've learned alot from her , her knowledge , her wisdom , her wit , her humor ... a wise woman !!! we were content in each other ' s presence .
You are at Peace now I'm glad we were friends and to serve you . I will miss you greatly !!!
